Can you get dermals if you've had a piercing there before ?

I guess this might be a stupid question. i want to get my eyebrow pierced, and i'd like to have it for a while so i was considering getting dermals but i don't want to get them done and not like them because of they way they have to be removed. So my question is can you have the regular surface piercing with the barbell or whatever it is, and then after that heals can you get dermals put in after you've already had the surface piercing? like is it possible?
